On Sunday 7th March, Deputy-Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Neil Sutherland CBE DL represented the Lord-Lieutenant at the Sutton Wick remembrance event.
The event honoured the memory of those who lost their lives in 1957, when a Blackburn Beverley aircraft crashed shortly after take-off from RAF Abingdon, leaving no survivors. The service provided an opportunity for the community to come together in quiet reflection and remembrance.
A moving tribute to those who served, and a poignant reminder of the enduring importance of remembrance.
Deputy Lieutenant Mr Peter Bennett-Jones CBE DL represented the Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire at a performance by the Oxford Bach Choir at the Sheldonian Theatre, culminating in an impressive rendition of Elgar’s The Apostles.
Following the concert, he attended a reception at Trinity College, where Margaret Arnold was being duly celebrated (pictured with Cllr Mark Lygo, Chair of Oxfordshire County Council). The concert was dedicated to Margaret in recognition of her 90th birthday and remarkable 50 years of service to the Choir, including many years as General Secretary, with the occasion marked by a spectacular celebratory cake.
