Brian Buchan
Brian Buchan MBE DL has been a Deputy Lieutenant for Oxfordshire since 2018. He is part of the Lieutenancy Team focused on Oxford East and, having additionally served as Vice Lord-Lieutenant for five years from 2019, he now chairs the Lieutenancy’s Advisory Group, drawing on expertise outside of the Lieutenancy.
Brian was educated at Jesus College, Oxford, and went on to an international management career with Procter & Gamble, where he rose to Group Vice-President and Company Officer. Since returning to Oxfordshire in 2000, he has held CEO, Chairman, and non-executive roles with other consumer goods companies such as SSL, Burtons, and RHM.
Additionally, Brian has served as Chair of the Finance Committee at the Story Museum in Oxford; President of OXSRAD, which is a disability centre in East Oxford; and as a member of the Oxford Community Foundation's Step Change Panel, which funds many Oxfordshire charities. An advocate for more students from state-schools applying to the University of Oxford, Brian has also served on the Jesus College Development Committee. He is a Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Artsand was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the King’s New Year Honours list 2026 for services to charity and to the community in Oxfordshire.
Brian lives in Fyfield with his wife Frances.
