Lynda Atkins

Lynda Atkins DL has served as Deputy Lieutenant for Oxfordshire since 2019. She is part of the Lieutenancy Team focused on South Oxfordshire and additionally served as Vice Lord-Lieutenant in the year 2024-25.

Lynda formerly served in the Royal Air Force and the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (Territorial Army). Her civilian career then began in the National Health Service and, from 1995, in the Civil Service in a range of roles within the Department of Health. She became Assistant Director of Performance Management for NHS England – Southeast. Lynda became an internal Management Consultant also before setting up her own business, Under the Rainbow Limited, in 2003 to provide business support and project management for a wide range of hospital projects.

From 2008 to 2019, Lynda served as an independent County Councillor for her hometown of Wallingford. During that time, Lynda got involved in working with the Armed Forces and acted as the County Council Military Champion for RAF Benson. She was also a member of Wallingford Town Council and served as Town Mayor on two occasions.  Meanwhile, from 2012 to 2015, Lynda worked as Chief of Staff to Ed Vaizey MP in the Wantage and Didcot constituency. Lynda is also a Trustee of the Wallingford and District Talking Newspaper and the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum

In 2015, Lynda became the Oxfordshire County Chairman of the Royal British Legion (RBL). She became a National Trustee, and from 18 May 2025 serves as National Chair.  She was also appointed Honorary Air Commodore of 606 Squadron, based at RAF Benson, in April 2025.
