Tehmeena Ajmal
Tehmeena Ajmal DL has been a Deputy Lieutenant for Oxfordshire since 2022. She is part of the Lieutenancy Team focused on Oxford and holds the Lieutenancy’s Mental Health, Health, and Social Services brief for the County.
Tehmeena started her career in community development and then learning and development in Manchester City Council. In 1994, she joined the National Health Service in Ealing Hospital to lead their work on equal access to services. She continued this work in Oxfordshire across health and social care. Tehmeena spent three years with the NHS Leadership Centre, developing and evaluating a whole range of leadership programmes for NHS managers, before returning to acute services to lead on risk and governance.
In 2008, Tehmeena joined South Central Ambulance Service to work on service improvement and change. From 2012, she led a substantial change programme at Buckinghamshire Hospitals Trust. She then joined Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, which delivers community and mental health services across multiple counties, initially as Head of Quality and Risk, and later as Operational Director for Community Services. Tehmeena led the Trust’s response to the pandemic before taking on the role of Chief Operating Officer at Berkshire Healthcare Trust.
Today, in addition to serving as Vice-Patron of Response, a mental health charity in Oxfordshire, Tehmeena is Chief Operating Officer at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
