HRH The Duchess of Cambridge visits RAF Brize Norton

HRH The Duchess of Cambridge visited RAF Brize Norton to acknowledge those who were involved in Operation Pitting, the evacuation of British citizens and military and civic personnel, and Afghan citizens following the takeover of the Taliban in August 2021. More than 850 people, including tiny babies, arrived at the RAF base, with the base’s full fleet of transport aircraft involved in the operation.

Met by Tim Stevenson, the Duchess was introduced to the Station Commander, Group Captain Emily Flynn who briefed HRH on the processing of arrivals from Kabul.

HRH met with military personnel and civilians who were directly involved in the effort, from RAF aircrew and medics who supported evacuees at Kabul airport, to the civilians and volunteers who established a Repatriation Centre at RAF Brize Norton providing key supplies and support on their arrival into the UK.

HRH was invited to sign the Visitors Book before departing.
