The High Sheriff of Oxfordshire’s Climate Action Awards ‘Celebrating Oxfordshire’s Climate Heroes’

These awards build on the highly successful High Sheriff’s theme of ‘Celebrating Oxfordshire’s Covid-19 Heroes’. The aim of these awards is to recognise and celebrate achievement around climate action across Oxfordshire by individuals, voluntary groups and organisations across four categories:

  • Young people / schools

  • Community action (including community and voluntary groups; parish councils)

  • Local businesses / social enterprises

  • Individuals

The judging panel will consist of experts in the climate action field. The awards will be launched on 5th November 2021 with a nomination deadline of 31st December 2021. A list of winners will be announced in mid-January 2022, followed by a High Sheriff’s Awards ceremony for the winners, which will be filmed and photographed to publicise and celebrate the winners in the county.

At the discretion of the Judging Panel, some winners might be given small grants to further their projects.

Awards will be judged based on climate action projects demonstrating:

  • genuine impact on reduction of carbon emissions within their target area

  • sustainability and show potential for scaling up for action elsewhere

  • that they are innovative or ground-breaking

  • good engagement with the relevant community/ies or stakeholders

  • community or organisational legacy/change resulting from the initiative
